I entered the World of Frida juried show at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek. http://www.bedfordgallery.org/exhibitions/past/the-world-of-frida I haven’t used people as subject matter in my printmaking, but I’ve always loved Frida. My sketch of Frida. I decided to do a profile angle. Inspired by the late 19th century poster artist Mucha, I wanted a layout in the Art Nouveau style.

Carving the block.
I surrounded Frida’s image with design motifs of ancient Mexico. Frida was proud of her Mexican heritage, and symbols of native culture were prominent in her paintings.
